Although the exhibit was overall in favor of Truman’s decision, it also gave the perspective that a good amount of high ranking officials at the time deemed the dropping of the bomb unnecessary. For example, many (Americans at least) are familiar with the argument that by dropping the atomic bomb countless US soldiers were saved from an impending Japanese mainland invasion. Rather than simply reiterating what most Americans are familiar with, the exhibit was going to provide multiple perspectives. The Enola Gay proposed exhibition of 1994 by the National Air and Space Museum had a much more objective stance of the dropping of the atomic bombs than Americans were previously familiar with.
